West Coast Artist Dee Dee Murry has always loved animals and art, thus her love for painting animals. Growing up she showed two Morab horses and earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for riding a horse the longest (equestrian marathon). After college, she began showing dogs, first with her Great Dane, "Fred", who became the #3 Dane in the US in obedience, and then with her standard red longhaired dachshund, "Jessie", who became the #1 hound group in the US and Canada in obedience. Currently she has a black and tan longhaired Dachshund named Hallie who she is showing in obedience.
Dee Dee works in a variety of mediums, including oil, acrylic, mixed media, and graphite. She prefers to work on smooth surfaces such as gessobord or hot press watercolor paper, as it lends itself well to the level of detail she aims to achieve. Her preferred subjects are horses, dogs, cats and wildlife. She has a full schedule of commissioned pet portraits, of horses, dogs, cats and other animals.
Her art is owned by clients world wide. She has multiple awards including Washington State Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year. She has placed in the top 20 in the Federal Duck Stamp competition twice. She has also won the Courage Cards national competition for a Christmas Card image as well as many awards from various art shows. She is kept busy with pet portrait commissions as well as painting for competitions and for her portfolio.
